Frequently asked questions

question mark

who, what, when, where and why?

What subjects do you tutor?

Mathematics

What ages do you tutor?

Primary school to second year university and all in between.

Where do you tutor?

I tutor in the Bonville, Toormina, Sawtell, Boambee and Coffs Harbour areas.

I come to your preferred venue which can include your home, your school library (ask permission first please) or your parents’ workplace (with permission). Students enrolled on the SCU campus can meet me there too. Please note extra costs apply if I need to travel and I do reserve the right to decline long trips as it cuts into the available time for tutoring.

What are your rates and how do we pay you?

My base rate until July 2019 is $50 per 50min session (booked for a full term) and $10 per extra 10 min or part thereof, plus travel costs of 66c per km measured from the Boambee East Community Centre on Bruce King Drive with first 7 km free.

Cancellations a week in advance will attract no penalty. Same day cancellations and no-shows will be billed at the full rate while cancellations within a week will attract a $10 penalty.

By taking a slot for the term, the student or person paying for tuition undertakes to pay for at least 8 weeks in the term.

If you would prefer to book per lesson, lessons can be booked within the week of that single lesson and will depend on availability. One-off lessons or  booking every fortnight in stead of every week will be billed at $60 per lesson. Full term bookings take preference over casual bookings.

Invoices can be sent via email on request.

What are your qualifications?

I am currently finishing a Masters of teaching. I have a PhD in Applied Mathematics and finished a cert IV in teaching and assessment a while ago. I also qualified as an associate dance teacher and taught myself various skills like setting up this web page and cutting sound on Audacity. I have 14 years of Uni teaching experience, 10 years of private tutoring in Coffs Harbour, and 3 years of running my own dance school. We also ran 6 months of Lego workshops. The variety gives me an edge when I work with different students.

Do you have a working with children clearance number?

Yes and it is current.

Do you work with students with Dyscalculia?

Yes I tutor students with Dyscalculia. One of the services I offer for primary school aged children is a functional evaluation to determine which parts of numeracy they have mastered and which parts need attention.  This evaluation is not a diagnosis (which can only be performed by a psychologist with specialist training).

Do you have a golden rule?

Yes. I do not tutor anyone that does not want to be tutored.
